DESIGN

What is a landscape design?
A well-planned landscape considers design, installation and maintenance. A project’s success can be affected if any one factor is overlooked. An extremely well conceived landscape cannot succeed if it is poorly installed, nor can a poorly designed landscape be redeemed by good installation procedures. A design begins with a site analysis and an analysis of the property owner’s needs. Until the needs of the property and the people using it are known, they cannot be met. Once these factors are known, the designer can begin to layout specific design concepts. All circulation routes are also considered during this design stage, determining the general size and shape of walks, drives, patios, and so forth, without specifically determining the surfacing to be used. Aesthetic decisions come later.
After the general layout has been completed, aesthetic design factors can be considered. Would a tree be necessary for shade or would a trellis be more appropriate? Can screening be accomplished with plantings or is a fence necessary? Textures, colors, and forms are blended together to form a functioning landscape that is pleasant to view.

How much will a typical landscape design cost?
The price for a typical landscape design is $350. More complex projects can be more expensive. The design includes meeting with the client to determine their needs, a scaled drawing specifying plant selections and a cost estimate for installing the design.

Why do you collect a retainer for design services?
We collect a retainer to cover the initial costs of our design services. This shows a commitment to the design process on the part of the client as well as confidence in our abilities and us, which is necessary for success of the project.

Do I have to commit to a design right away?
No. You may schedule an initial no cost-no obligation consultation with a designer without actually having a plan drawn. This gives you a chance to view photos of finished projects we have completed and to see if you feel comfortable working with the designer and Createscape.

How long does it take to complete a design?
To ensure you receive a quality design, we will not rush the design process. Generally, it takes about 2-3 weeks to complete a landscape plan, depending on how busy our design staff is. Highly detailed plans may take longer.
