GENERAL
Can my landscaping be done in phases if I am unable to afford it all at one time?
At Createscape, we are glad to phase projects for our customers. Its a great way to make larger projects more affordable. Phasing does however add to the overall cost of a project due to extra mobilization costs and other work related inefficiencies. You should plan your phases with a great deal of thought. It is important that you start with heavy construction such as hardscapes, before smaller items such as plantings. Each project is unique and has its own logical phasing scheme. Your designer can define a phasing plan to suit the needs of your project.
What is the approximate time to finish our project once you start?
Our sales staff can provide you with their estimate of the budgeted man-hours to complete the project. At Createscape we try to satisfy one customer at a time. We do this by staying on their job from start to finish (weather permitting) before moving on to another job.
Who will be working on our project?
We have only experienced foreman running our jobs, which are in contact with your salesperson via two-way radios.
Once installed, how do we care for our landscape?
We have preprinted follow up care instructions for seed, sod and plants that your salesperson will go over with you upon completion of your project.
Do you have any references?
Although a company is typically going to only provide references of happy customers, some landscapers are unable to come up with any references at all. And dont just stop at calling the references, drive by and see what they look like. Consumers have several other sources for information on local companies including the Better Business Bureau and the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
Does your company carry insurance?
Yes. You should always ask for a certificate of insurance prior to having any contractor work on your property. Coverage should include general liability, auto, as well as workers compensation.
Can we tour your facility?
Often times fly by night companies dont even have a facility let alone have display gardens. Spring, summer, and fall are the best times to see all that happens at Createscape. We would be happy to show you around! Call your salesperson to set up an appointment.
Do you work in the winter?
By working on projects such as retaining walls, brick paving, ponds and more during the off-season months, we can give our customers a jump-start on their landscaping before the busy spring season rolls around.
What is the benefit of a Design/Build contractor?
At Createscape, we can handle all stages of a project from beginning to end. Dealing with one company from the concept to the completion means that the designers vision is not lost. We are also able to subcontract services which we do not provide so that you only deal with one contractor.
Do we give free estimates?
Most of the time when people ask us if we give free estimates, what they really mean is do we design landscapes for free. Our estimate, or price, must be based on a plan and a detailed set of specifications, which are the end product of the design process. It is impossible for us, or anyone for that matter, to give a meaningful price without a plan that was generated through the design process. To do so would be merely guessing. At Createscape, we charge for our assistance in conducting the design process and in generating plans and specifications needed to develop the landscape. There are some items that we do give free estimates on such as lawn installation, patios or walks, trees, and retaining walls. We can also bid off of a plan drawn by others.
What is the average cost of a landscape?
Because landscaping is personal there really is no average cost. From a real estate point of view, an investment of less than five percent of the value of the house will probably not do it justice. The resale value of the property will not be greatly affected by the landscaping unless it approaches ten percent or more of the value of the house.
How do I choose a good landscaping company?
Visiting local garden shows and talking with neighbors who have recently had work done are excellent ways to find a good landscaper. Be sure to meet with the designer who will be drawing your plan. You should be comfortable with them and their style of design. Choose a company with the experience, personnel, and equipment to complete your job efficiently.
Why is your bid more than the other bid I have?
Owners/property managers should never hire on price alone as no two landscape companies are alike. The lowest bid may not include all of the equipment and/or materials necessary to complete the job. An inexperienced company may not fully understand the parameters of the job.
